Antenna Chetumal: Use of remote sensing data for environmental and civil security applications in Mexico

Mexico City, 22nd to 24th of April, 2008

Location: Internacional Conference Center (ICC)
Ciudad de México / Mexico City

Host: German Remote Sensing Data Center (DLR-DFD) in partnership with the Mexican National Commission for the Knowledge and Use of Biodiversity (Conabio)

DLR-DFD has established a new earth observation satellite receiving station in Chetumal, Mexico which has been operational since May 2007. The ground station is able to receive a range of satellite data, e.g. MODIS, Landsat-5, IRS-P6 and TerraSAR-X.

In order to inspire a broad scientific, operational and commercial use of these earth observation data and to foster the establishment of a remote sensing community in Mexico and Central America on issues related to the environment and civil security, DLR and Conabio are conducting a workshop in Mexico-City.

The workshop outline has been drawn to present a range of earth observation satellites and data, their potential uses and exemplary processing algorithms for the Mexican and Central American user community. The workshop will give key Mexican and Central American users an opportunity to formulate their specific needs and expectations in remote sensing based information. The objective is to establish data access and close collaboration over a range of applications between DLR-DFD, other European and international partners and regional institutions. A close collaboration with American institutions is a desired outcome of this workshop.

A field trip to Chetumal may be organized on the 24th of April for participants interested in the technology of the station.

Please register to the workshop with your name, affiliation, type of accommodation and an indication whether you like to participate at side events and/or the Chetumal field trip before April 11th 2008.

Transport, hotel accommodation and side events must be organized and paid by the participants individually.
