Location of the study area

The study area corresponds to the Valle de Bravo basin, which pertains to hydrologic region number 18 Balsas, and it is located in the State of Mexico (see figure 1). The basin is located in the physiographic province Eje - Neovolcánico Transversal.

According to its location and topography, the basin has sub-humid temperate climate with rain in the summer, except for two areas: the first at the extreme West, which is the high part of the basin, and where a semi-cold temperate climate with summer rains prevails; the second is located in the lower part of the basin, to the North of the dam, where a semi-hot temperate climate prevails.

The main bodies of water in the basin are the Amanalco river and the Valle de Bravo dam.
