SATELLITE IMAGE

To perform the work, two Landsat satellite images (Path-Row 27-48) provided by PROFEPA and the Institute of Geography of the Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) were used. The first, a TM-scene was recorded on October 24, 1992 by Landsat 5 (see figure 2); and the second, on April 13, 2000, a new Landsat7 ETM+; the latter appears hazy due to smoke from various fires or agricultural burnings occurring in the area.

The difference in the seasons of the year makes it difficult to compare the vegetation, since the first image was taken in the month following the rainy season, consequently humidity conditions are reflected in the vegetation; the second was taken during the dry season when humidity is lower; this factor should be taken into account when interpreting changes of vegetation.
