The Collection of Herpetology of the Academy of Sciences of California includes specimens from 166 countries , particularly from western United States, Baja California and northwestern Mexico. At the continental level, the greatest representativity corresponds to Asia, the desert regions of northern Africa and Sub-Sahara, eastern Australia, New Guinea and the islands of the Pacific. Also represented are the most relevant genera of the Neotropical and Paleartic regions.

The database of this collection includes 268 538 records corresponding to 91 families, 1 085 genera and 5 644 species of amphibian and reptiles.
