The National Biodiversity Institute (INBio) has as its purpose that of promoting a greater consciousness of the value of biodiversity to achieve its preservation and improve the quality of life of the human being. To achieve these objectives, INBio, through a group of expert taxonomists conducts an inventory of its fauna in order to maintain systematized collections of reference, updated and available to a wide community of users of its page and that of REMIB. Consequently, the participation of INBio in REMIB is very important since it enriches and broadens information related to the flora and fauna of Mesoamerica.

The database of the Malacology Collection of the INBio includes mollusks, both land, fresh water and marine water, and is represented by 20 739 records corresponding to 217 families, 603 genera and 1 400 species.
