Most of the published papers about mammals from the Michoacan State are from the coastal area. When we consider the abundance of natural resources, the fertile soil, the adequate weather and the variety of humane settlements throughout the history of Michoacan, we find patent changes in the primary ecological systems, which have recently been increasing. Therefore, it is important to recognize the regional ecologycal systems and the mammals as a component of them. This project proceeds from a comprehensive review of the mammal collections of the State of Michoacan and published papers, whose information has been integrated on a database.

The database contains 6 663 specimens pertaining to 22 families, 78 genera and 148 species, and it pertains to the SNIB.
