The Ornithological Collection of the Museum of Zoology is represented by species from the southern and central zone of Quintana Roo, including the Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve and the Manati Sanctuary in Chetumal Bay in addition to the Cancun-Tulum tourist corridor and the island of Cozumel in the northern area of the State. It also has samples from the state of Campeche, including the Calakmul Biosphere Reserve, The Hampolol Biological Station and the Region of the Petenes.

The database of the Collection of Reference of Sian Ka’an Birds has 1 020 samples pertaining to 44 families, 159 genera and 215 species of birds, and it pertains to the SNIB.
