The Ichthyoplankton Collection gathers information from the two main areas of the Madalena - Almejas Bay Estuarine System and the El Vizcaino neritic region. The former one is the biggest and most important region of the Mexican Pacific, it relates to the ocean through three entrances that promote the exchange of water and marine fauna. The environmental and fishery relevance is based on the complexity of the fauna and the abundance of trade attractive resources, mainly fishing of minor pelagic fish.

The data base which belongs to SNIB, has 4 137 curatorial records from 102 families, 227 genera and 263 species
