RESULTS FROM THE 2001 PROGRAM The program was carried out with AVHRR daytime and nighttime satellite images (the exact time the image was taken is shown in the tabular information). General Map The general map shows all hot spots detected with nighttime AVHRR images for the period January 1 to August 31, 2001. This map is the result of superimposing maps corresponding to each of the days on which hot spots were recorded. Dates not found on the map correspond to days on which no hot spots were detected or no image was received. Images Analyzed The following tables show the information referring to the number of days without image, to the number of days with information from at least one hot spot, and the total number without detection. Natural Vegetation Most Affected Some 41.2% of the hot spots were recorded in areas with preserved natural vegetation (that is, those categories of vegetation not presenting fragmentation or disturbance according to the National Institute of Statistics, Geography and Informatics classification of 1996, preliminary version). Of the hot spots detected with daytime images, 29.2% were located in this same category. The distribution by group of vegetation is presented below: Nighttime AVHRR Images
Daytime AVHRR Images
The five types of vegetation most affected by the presence of hot spots are shown in the following table:
