EDAPHOLOGY

This zone has eight soil types: Humic acrisol.- found in the northeastern part of the zone, these are soils with forest and rainforest vegetation; they have an accumulation of clay, poor in nutrients and susceptible to erosion by action of temperature and plentiful rainfall.

>Chromic cambisol, eutric cambisol, lithosol and eutric rhegosol.- located in the central and southern parts of the study area. These are uderdeveloped soils, capable of supporting in their substrata any kind of vegetation -in this case, rainforests and forests- and the implementation of irrigated and seasonal crops.

Feozem, Haplic Feozem and Gleyic Solonchak.- found in the central-northern and southwestern parts. Solonchak soil is characterized by high contents of salts because it is located in the coast corridor. Vegetation growing in this kind of soil supports a high level of salts, in this case mangrove. Feozem soil is located in any kind of slope; this soil is rich in organic material and appears both in arid and temperate or tropical zones. This type of soil can support any kind of vegetation. Within the zone, this soil is found mainly in the Sierra, with rainforest and forest vegetation.
